Grand Seiko Master Craftsman Event

We are incredibly excited to announce the return of Grand Seiko Master Craftsman Satoshi Hiraga to Topper Fine Jewelers on Friday, November 2nd from 6-9 PM. As we continue to host our Topper x Watch The Bay events for both new and existing attendees, we are thrilled to be able to host events that focus on all different aspects of the hobby.

Unlike the Grand Master Craftsman we've hosted in the store — who worked on Spring Drive models like the famous SBGA211 Snowflake and the recently announced USA-exclusive "Kira-zuri" SBGA387 — Mr. Hiraga's specialty is working on automatic calibers. And when he visits Topper, he'll perform a live, complex, assembly and disassembly of high beat movements; this will be projected up on the big screen so that everyone in attendance can see a true master at work.

The 2018 break out hit SBGH267 is one of the watches that features a hi-beat movement that Mr. Hiraga will assemble/disassemble at our event.

Mr. Hiraga has a resume that transcends Master Craftsman, with a career that began with Seiko in 1989. Sixteen years with the company later in 1995, he was named winner of the Japan National Skills Competition in watchmaking. Then in 2015, Mr. Hiraga received his certification from the Japanese Government as "Contemporary Master Craftsman." It almost goes without saying that we are honored to welcome such a legend in Japanese horology to the store.

In addition to Mr. Hiraga's incredible work, this event will also provide a unique opportunity to get a close-up look at Grand Seiko's incredible movement architecture and use of modern, proprietary materials. This includes all the subtle differences between Grand Seiko's signature SPRON hairsprings which enhance the anti-magnetism in its Hi-Beat watches; as well as the nickel escapement wheel and pallet fork that are engineered using MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) technology for enhanced precision and durability. We'd encourage guests to ask Mr. Hiraga any questions as they watch him work throughout the evening.

Grand Seiko USA's Sales & Marketing heads Rusty Rowlands and Roland Coy will also be on hand showcasing some of the newest and hottest Grand Seiko models, which include prototypes of the new Quartz GMT models, the breakout hit SBGN001 Limited Edition, as well as the new Grand Seiko "Kira-zuri" US-Exclusive Limited Edition, in addition to the rest of this year's hot anniversary editions.

The US exclusive limited edition SBGA385 will be one of the new models on display at our craftsman event.

Rest assured the highly technical nature of this event, and the watches on display are just part of the fun, because it wouldn’t be a proper Grand Seiko x Topper Watch the Bay event without Japanese whiskey, beer and sushi to enjoy as well.

We have a lot more fun exciting events planned and will continue to partner with Watch The Bay to help plan and spread the word about them.
