A 3-D printed carbon tribute to the brave aerial firefighter of Coulson Aviation
Oris soars into new horizons with the aerial firefighters of Coulson Aviation through a commemorative crimson-dialed watch built around a 3D-printed carbon fiber case produced using an innovative process that appears in watchmaking for the first time. This special case material is presented in fiery contrast with a bright orange gradient dial, a clear symbol of the perilous environments Coulson’s brave pilots rush towards while most are obliged to turn away.
Founded in 1960 and now the world’s leading aerial firefighting organization, Coulson deploys its pilots along with highly specialized planes and equipment to areas of the world most affected by wildfires. In the Northern Hemisphere summer, that’s chiefly the US and California; during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer, its resources are split between Australia and South America. The overall vision: to crush extreme fires while delivering vital assistance to firefighters on the ground — protecting both life and environment.
Devised by Switzerland’s prestigious ETH Zurich university (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology), the case of the ProPilot Coulson Aviation is crafted using an innovative new 3D printing process that weaves together carbon fiber and an aerospace polymer called PEKK. The end result is an ultralight, ultra-precise, and extremely rigid material that perfectly complements this high-flying tool watch. And once cased with a movement, the watch head itself weighs a scant 65 grams.
Befitting of a flight-qualified precision instrument, this reference is powered by the Oris Calibre 400 automatic movement, which enjoys elevated levels of anti-magnetism, a five-day power reserve and a best-in-class warranty. It’s also accurate to -3/+5 seconds a day – which would comfortably pass chronometer testing – and has 10-year recommended service intervals.
