A unique dial that captures the Nature of Time
Kintaro Hattori founded the company of Seiko in 1881 and led it until his death at the age of 73 in 1934. His philosophy was that his company should be “Always one step ahead of the rest” and, though it was not created until 1960, nothing better expresses the power of his vision than Grand Seiko with its unique design, leading edge manufacturing and exquisite finishing. Today, Grand Seiko commemorates the 140th anniversary of the foundation of Kintaro’s vision with a creation powered by the new Spring Drive 5 Days Caliber 9RA2.
The watch’s dial is inspired by the calm waters of Lake Suwa that lies close to the Shinshu Watch Studio where the watch is crafted. Its patterned dial evokes the gentle sway of the water surface of Lake Suwa, with ripples and shallow waves that create a pleasing sparkle at whichever angle the dial catches the light. Combined with the smooth sweeping movement of the seconds hand unique to Spring Drive, the dial captures the tranquil and seamless passage of time. The seconds hand and Grand Seiko letters are in a gold color that echoes the morning sunrise shimmering on the lake’s surface.
The watch is powered by the new Grand Seiko Spring Drive 5 Days Caliber 9RA2, which inherits all the performance characteristics of the Spring Drive Caliber 9RA5 introduced last year in 2020 for Grand Seiko's 60th anniversary. The new setting of the watch hands and the power reserve indicator moved to the movement's back gives the watch a slender and elegant feel upon observation of the dial and enhances the dial’s exquisite craftwork signature to Grand Seiko. And for the first time ever, this movement is visible thanks to a sapphire exhibition caseback. Limited to 2021 pieces.

Topper Fine Jewelers will have sole discretion to determine whether the work for the warranty will be performed "in house" by Topper Fine Jewelers or at a repair facility of our choice. The limited warranty does not cover bracelets, crystals, batteries, or any damage to the case or movement caused by moisture that might have entered the watch as a result of improper handling, nor does it apply, on a more general basis, if there is evidence of misuse or abuse. Only Topper Fine Jewelers will determine at its sole discretion to repair any watch under this warranty.
