Oris Divers Sixty-Five 'Maxi' Topper Edition

ref: 733 7720 4034

ONLY A FEW LEFT!

This new Oris x Topper Jewelers collaboration imagines what it might be like to step back in time and purchase an adventure-ready dive watch with a bold, 42mm case beset with a dark black dial and crisp, oversized white markers – exactly as it might have been retailed in a seaside dive shop, or at Topper Jewelers in 1965, when we would have just been celebrating our 25th anniversary, operating a pair of stores in Modesto and Merced, California.

As the second time Oris and Topper Jewelers have collaborated on an original Diver 65 reference, this unique concept piece represents the first Oris Diver 65 that doesn’t simulate an aged archival reference, but one that instead seeks to re-imagine what the watch might have looked like, presented on our store shelves, over fifty years ago.

To execute this concept, the combination of Oris’ 42mm Diver 65 case has been matched for the first time with the original 12-3-6-9 painted hour dial, proportions which might have been considered ‘maxi’ by comparison in 1965, and at the outer limit of size for nearly any Swiss watch of its era. In keeping with the ‘maxi’ concept, bold BG-W9 SuperLuminova has been selected for the luminous paint, providing a sharp contrast with the matte black dial. An orange-tipped seconds hand provides the only color commentary in this unique reference that prizes legibility and contrast over all else, faithfully adhering to the spirit of the purpose-built sport diving tool watches of the era. The warm, nostalgic package will be completed with a series of promotional elements matching the style and design sense that Topper Jewelers might have once deployed, yielding an intimate portrait of the watch-buying experience from fifty years ago.

Limited to 165 pieces, $200 (shared between Topper Jewelers and Fremont Bank) from the sale of each Diver 65 Topper Edition will be donated to the CuriOdyssey Museum, in support of an popular, ongoing exhibit which will be launching for the first time outdoors this fall. Called IlluminOdyssey, this vibrant, limited-time exhibit will teach children about light, and will even include a special installation showing how various objects – including watch dials, are able to emit light using phosphorescence.

Located a short drive from Topper’s own downtown location, CuriOdyssey is a unique science and wildlife center that helps children acquire the tools they need to understand and appreciate our changing world – a mission that simultaneously aligns with Oris’ commitment to conservation, and Topper’s ongoing tradition of supporting the future generations of its local community.
