The legendary King Seiko gets a new size and movement

As the story goes, Kintaro Hattori opened a shop in Ginza to sell timepieces in 1881, thus beginning the history of Seiko. His company produced Japan’s first wristwatch in 1913 and has since advanced the art of watchmaking through both technology and craft.

The King Seiko collection pays tribute to Hattori's original mission, and now, a year after this collection was re-introduced to the modern collector, Seiko is now offering the King Seiko in an entirely new 39mm size while retaining the storied design of the KSK. Though the dial is larger than that of its 37mm predecessor, subtle refinements to the design and manufacturing maintain the graceful feel of the original KSK.

For example, the indexes are bolder and include an additional facet to better reflect light, enhancing legibility. The lugs are wider, but the upper surface now has a hairline finish while the angular sides are polished, enhancing the contrast of the case. Additionally, the top of the bezel now has a hairline finish and the side is mirror polished. This watch comes with the same seven-link bracelet seen in 37mm King Seiko watches, so these bracelets are interchangeable between the two watch sizes.

Perhaps most notable, this new 39mm King Seiko is powered by a new automatic Seiko movement: Caliber 6R55, with a full three-day (72 hour) power reserve. It retains the signature 100 meters of water resistance, making the King Seiko a thoughtful choice for everyday adventures as well.
