Introducing the Nomos Zurich Worldtimer Topper Edition

Posted on

Topper Fine Jewelers is thrilled to announce our second limited edition Nomos Glashütte timepiece — the Zurich Worldtimer Topper Edition! Like our first collaboration with Nomos Glashütte, the Topper Tangente Limited Edition, this watch features a lacquered white dial paired with blue hands, markers, and accents.

Between the Bauhaus design and the beautiful galvanized, white silver-plating, there's nothing quite like a standard Nomos dial. But there's something really special about the intensely deep, rich white finish that lacquer yields – a finish that we think looks truly exceptional when paired with bright blue hands and dial accents. It's also interesting to note that many Topper customers who came to know Nomos online were surprised when they first saw Nomos dials in the metal and find that the standard issue dials are not actually white, but instead an attractive off-white and silvery metallic color. Topper Limited Nomos Glashuttes are for those who want a true white treatment which we think is natural extension of their design language.

We will have our first physical prototype of this new limited edition in September, but in the meantime, the best way to illustrate this dial aesthetic is to compare Topper Jewelers last limited edition to a standard Nomos 38mm Tangente silver dial.

The white lacquer dial of the Nomos Glashütte Zurich Worldtimer Topper Edition will be similar to the Topper Edition Tangente (left) which debuted in 2015. Note the contrast in color to a standard Tangente 38mm (right).

The Zurich Worldtimer features Nomos Glashütte's most sophisticated movement and case – the latter of which has won multiple design awards due to its multi-piece construction and sleek chamfered horns. At 39.9mm in diameter and 10.85mm thick, this Zurich is a comfortable timepiece that looks great on even modest wrist sizes. Ticking away inside is the in-house manufactured Nomos Glashütte DUW 5201 calibre movement, which you might remember was the brand's first automatic movement to feature the Swing system escapement.

Functionally, the Zurich Worldtimer is a wonderful travel watch, as it allows the wearer to change the time zone with the push of a button located at 2:00. This jumps the hour hand (local time) in single hourly increments as it corresponds with the rotating city disc at 12:00. Our limited edition is unique from the standard Zurich Worldtimer in that the Pacific Time zone, normally represented by Los Angeles, is represented by Topper Fine Jewelers hometown of Burlingame.

Where our prior Nomos limited edition called attention to the 75th Anniversary of Topper Fine Jewelers, this watch gives us a chance to highlight the hometown of our family and the host city of our family business. For those of you less familiar with the San Francisco Bay Area, Burlingame is located between San Francisco and San Jose, approximately 20 minutes south of San Francisco. In contrast to the San Francisco Bay Area at large, which has seven million people, Burlingame is home to about 30,000, yet it draws visitors from all over the Bay Area to enjoy its clean, small town feel and unique dining and shopping experiences. And though bigger than the town of Glashütte where the watch will be manufactured, with the exception of Pago Pago, Burlingame is the smallest in population amongst the 24 global cities represented on the time zone disc.

Founded in 1908, Burlingame's many tree-lined streets have earned it the nickname "City of Trees." However, many of the city's 18,000 trees are even older than the town itself, and as the Mayor of Burlingame pointed out at our launch event last week, many of these trees are reaching the end of their lifespan and need to be replaced. This watch gives Topper Fine Jewelers an opportunity to give back to the city that has supported us and our family business for decades. With the purchase of each Zurich Worldtimer Topper Edition, Topper Fine Jewelers and Nomos Glashütte are donating $200 to the Burlingame Department of Parks and Recreation's Tree Replacement Fund to pay for the purchase and planting of a new tree.

This 30-piece limited edition watch is priced at $6,100, the same retail as the standard edition Nomos Zurich Worldtimer. Each watch will come with a special limited edition certificate signed by a representative from Topper Jewelers, Nomos Glashütte, and the Mayor of Burlingame. We expect the watches to be delivered in November/December. To pre-order and pick your limited edition number, please call 888-730-2221 or email info@topperjewelers.com.
